Natural By Design are very proud to have provided the stonework to the Welcome To Yorkshire garden, designed by Mark Gregory. We are also proud to have been party to the award for Best Construction at the show. The garden also gained the Peoples Choice Award.
We researched and found the materials for this garden over a six month period, scouring the Yorkshire Dales and striking gold, so to speak, when we discovered the Bolton Estate at Bolton Castle, Wensleydale in North Yorkshire. They kindly allowed us to borrow stone from the beautiful landscape. We used their walling stone for both the dry stone walls and the Creamery building. Large rocks from the moors, gravel and boulders from the nearby beck were also used. The quoins, bridge stone, sills and paving slabs were supplied by Abacus of Holmfirth.

Natural By Design are proud to announce yet another GOLD MEDAL success at the 2019 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The garden, designed by Mark Gregory, also gained the prestigious Peoples Choice Award.
The Natural By Design walling team were again honoured with the task of sourcing and building the stonework to the 2019 Welcome to Yorkshire show garden, which featured an authentically built canal with flowing water and genuine canal lock gates and a lock keeper’s lodge with a colourful garden and vegetable patch.
The garden was inspired by Yorkshire’s proud history of industry, manufacturing and innovation but also the county’s stunning natural environment and many green spaces.
Our stonework provided an atmospheric build which evoked the very essence of Yorkshire, striking a balance between the industrial and the beautiful, demonstrating that a working lock can also be a place of tranquillity and charm.
